Words 'diabetes type 2' appearing behind torn blue paper. White pills and male hand. Beaut

Hello

I'm Marianne

I live with type 2 diabetes and a deep love of good, simple food.

This is where I share what it's like constantly having to close the gap between what I should do to stay well and what I want to do to avoid immediate discomfort.  While working, parenting and trying to remember to breathe, sit up straight, be mindful, be kind, be courteous, be efficient, look interested, get the right leg in the right pants hole, put the bins out on the right day without getting bin juice on my sleeve... blah blah

I also share what I've learned from my cousin Waleed (a doctor) and anyone else generous enough to pass on something useful about food and movement.

You'll also find recipes, resources and rants.  Not all from me.  This is intended to be a shared space, curated by me.  It's also a place to publish my blog, ‘A Measured Life’, where you'll find questions, small victories, big failures and observations about anything that occurs to me.

If you'd like to share a recipe, resource, rant or observation of your own, send it to me.  I'll share what I can in the time and space available.

Thank you.

Important stuff

Things I am not: a doctor, scientist, therapist, nanny, agony aunt, nurse, saint, punch bag, the Samaritans, mind-reader or clairvoyant.

To my eternal chagrin, I am also not Miss Piggy.*

I believe that the strongest predictor for success in coping with a life with type 2 diabetes is support.  That is why I  want to share my experience and learn what works for you, too.  I'd like this to feel like a conversation, not a broadcast.

You don't have to have type 2 diabetes to benefit from the information on this site, incidentally.

Whatever your medical profile, please do consult your doctor before doing anything that could affect your health.

* Though I am reliably informed by someone who finds it not so easy being green that there are days when the distinction is decidedly blurred.

I'd love to hear what works for you

Thank you
